Kerala Police Pol-App: What It Does and Which Features Are Worth Using

Pol-App is the official Kerala Police app, launched in June 2020 and free on Android and iPhone. A UNI report dated 18 September 2026 put it at about 35 police services and nearly 17 lakh downloads. For a Kochi resident, five features justify the install: an SOS panic button, Track My Trip location sharing, e-FIR downloads, a finder for your jurisdictional police station, and offence reporting with photos.

What is the POL app?

It is the state police department's main citizen app, built so that routine dealings with the police do not need a trip to the station. The Pol-App page on the Kannur City police website sorts it into six groups: citizen services, information services, a "Report to Us" section, "Rate our Services", citizen safety, and women and child services. The same page still describes the app as having 27 services, the figure from launch; the September 2026 UNI count of about 35 suggests the page has not kept up. In the stores it is listed as "Pol-App (Kerala Police)".

It sits alongside the other phone-side protections we have covered, such as blocking a lost or stolen phone through Sanchar Saathi, but it is the only one of these built by Kerala Police.

Which Pol-App features are actually useful?

Most of the menu is information you could find elsewhere. These are the ones that do something:

Through the app's Senior Citizen's Register, people can also sign up for Janamaithri services; the registration is forwarded to the Janamaithri police.

Can I file a police complaint online in Kerala?

Partly. Pol-App's "Report to Us" section lets you report an offence with photos and a description, share information with police, and report an abandoned child, woman or senior citizen with a photo, which goes to the relevant control room. The Kannur City police page describes this as offence reporting and information sharing; it does not list FIR registration among the app's services. The FIR feature in the app is a download.

Where can I download police apps?

From the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store only. Search for "Pol-App (Kerala Police)" and check that the publisher is Kerala Police. Ignore APK copies offered on third-party download sites. An app that can see your location and contacts should come from the official store and nowhere else.

Kerala Police publishes other apps under its developer page on Google Play as well, but for most people Pol-App is the only one worth keeping on the home screen.

Is Pol-App worth installing?

Yes, for the safety features. On the Indian Google Play store it held a 4.4 average from about 8,400 ratings when we checked in October 2026, though the information screens add little you could not find elsewhere. The safety features are the reason to have it, and they only work if you set them up before you need them. On the day you install it:

• Add three trusted numbers to Track My Trip.
• Look up your jurisdictional police station and save its number.
• Find the SOS option so you are not hunting for it later.
