What actually happens at the centre?

You go in person. Aadhaar enrolment cannot be done online or by an agent on your behalf. Take your token, fill out the application form, hand over your documents for verification, and complete biometric capture: fingerprints, an iris scan, and a photograph. For a first enrolment this typically takes longer than an update, since updates to an address or phone number involve less biometric work.

What mistakes get applications rejected?

Enrolment agencies and legal-advisory sites consistently point to the same culprit: a name spelled slightly differently across two documents ("Mohammed" versus "Muhammed," a missing initial, a surname in a different order), and no one at the counter is going to proofread that for you before you queue. Check that your Proof of Identity and Proof of Address match identically before you go, down to spelling and spacing, since a mismatch usually means a second trip and another token.
