Most of these are long-distance trains, so book ahead if you want a reserved seat. About 3 hours 45 minutes, according to Rome2rio, with fares from roughly Rs 170 for an ordinary seat to Rs 800 for premium coaches. Buses run via Aluva, Angamaly, Chalakudy and Thrissur, stopping as they go. That makes the bus a good option for those towns and a poor one for Palakkad itself.
