Booking normally opens 30 days ahead, you can book up to six seats per ticket, and a Rs 10 per-seat reservation fee applies, according to KSRTC's terms as of October 2026. Cancel more than 72 hours before departure and there is no cancellation fee, though the reservation fee and online service and gateway charges are not refunded.

What is the best KSRTC booking app for Kerala?
The official one: Ente KSRTC Neo-oprs, the app KSRTC itself names alongside its booking website, onlineksrtcswift.com. Both sell seats on KSRTC's reserved services, including KSRTC-SWIFT, the government company set up to run KSRTC's long-distance buses. The site's homepage also carries a Tour Package tab for KSRTC Budget Tourism trips.
Two traps catch people. First, ksrtc.in is the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, a completely different operator that shares the initials. If you are booking a Kerala bus and the site is asking about Bengaluru depots and Karnataka logos, you are in the wrong place. Second, aggregator apps such as MakeMyTrip also list KSRTC Kerala services. That is handy for comparing times, but everything below describes KSRTC's own portal and its published terms; an aggregator's fees and cancellation rules may differ, so read them before you pay.
How to book bus tickets online in mobile?
- Open onlineksrtcswift.com or the Ente KSRTC Neo-oprs app. You can book as a guest or register with an OTP-based login; registering saves time if you travel often.
- Enter where you are travelling from, where you are going and the journey date. Pick one way or round trip.
- Choose your service, then your pick-up and drop-off points carefully. KSRTC's rules say you can board and alight only at the points printed on your ticket.
- Enter passenger details, including the ID you will carry.
- Pay by card, net banking, wallet or UPI, and save the transaction ID.
Online booking runs round the clock, every day. For a bus leaving the same day, booking closes at chart preparation or one hour before departure from the starting point, whichever is earlier. If your plans involve a Bengaluru run, our Kochi to Bangalore guide compares the bus with the train and flight.
What extra charges are added to the fare?
| Charge | Amount, per KSRTC terms (October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Reservation fee | Rs 10 per seat, non-refundable |
| Tax on AC services | 5% of the basic fare |
| Service and payment gateway charges | Added on online bookings; not charged at KSRTC counters |
| Fare revision after booking | The difference is collected on the bus |
That last row surprises people. If fares go up between the day you book and the day you travel, the conductor collects the difference on board. Keep a little cash or UPI handy.
How much do you get back if you cancel?
Cancellation charges are a percentage of the basic fare, and the reservation fee, service charge and payment gateway charges are never refunded.
- More than 72 hours before departure: no cancellation fee
- 72 to 48 hours before: 10% of the basic fare
- 48 to 24 hours before: 25%
- 24 to 12 hours before: 40%
- 12 to 2 hours before: 50%
- Less than 2 hours before, or after departure: no refund
Refunds go only to the bank account you paid from, and KSRTC will not change the account. If a payment fails but money leaves your account, it should come back within seven banking days. If KSRTC cancels a service and cannot arrange an alternative, you get the full fare back minus reservation and gateway charges, but you must cancel the ticket on the portal within 30 days of the travel date to claim it. Budget Tourism bookings cannot be cancelled at all, so be sure before you pay.
Tickets booked online cannot be preponed or postponed; that option exists only for tickets bought at KSRTC or franchise counters, up to 24 hours before departure. That is a genuine reason to use the Ernakulam counter for a trip you suspect might shift.
What do you need to show on the bus?
Your M-ticket on your phone is valid, as is a printed reservation slip. Carry the original of the ID you entered while booking; KSRTC's terms say that without it the ticket can be treated as void. Before departure you should get an informative SMS with the crew's contact number and the bus number. That message is not your ticket, but it is the number to call if you need to change your pick-up point, which KSRTC says you must tell the crew about in advance.
For help, KSRTC lists a toll-free line, 1800 599 4011, and the email rsnksrtc@kerala.gov.in. If you are weighing the bus against the train for a shorter hop, our Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram comparison lays out the trade-offs, and more practical how-tos sit in our Guides section.
